Ontario, CA -- The Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass Music Festival, produced by the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau, is committed to keeping traditional Bluegrass alive by passing it on to youth. “This year we are proud to announce the partnership with the Folk Music Center in Claremont, California to provide the Music Education for Kids program during the 3-day event in June” said Michael Krouse, President and CEO. “We are dedicated to connecting kids with bluegrass music and look forward to the progression that two days of music lessons can make.”
The Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass Music Education for Kids is a free 2-day camp-style learning program held annually during Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass Music Festival at Cucamonga – Guasti Regional Park in Ontario, California. The program is open to children ages 8 – 16 offering instruction to play, sing and perform Bluegrass music. Each day contains sectional instruction with their instrumental teacher; and ensemble sessions with the entire group. The grand finale is a “Jubilee Jam” on Sunday afternoon. Kids will have fun, learn a lot, grow in confidence and make friends that can last a lifetime.
The talented and experienced instructors are local and part of the music education programs at the Folk Music Center in Claremont, California. Over 185 years of combined experience is amazing.
Instructors include:
- FIDDLE: Diane Messenger - 30 years performing and teaching (fiddle, violin, piano and voice)
- BANJO: Kent Besocke - 38 years performing and 25 teaching (banjo, guitar)
- BASS: Roy Durnal - 45 years performing and 15 years teaching (bass, drums, ukulele
- GUITAR: Mike Kreivis - 24 years performing and 16 years teaching (guitar, dobro, slide guitar, mandolin, ukulele)
- MANDOLIN: David Millard - 50 years performing and 30 years (mandolin, guitar and bass)
Each class is made up of ten students each, which provides individual attention and develops comradery amongst the students. All students should bring their own instruments, however a few instruments are on hand to borrow and should be reserved in advance. Classes are scheduled on Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 from 10:00am – 3:30pm daily. Children 12 and under are free to attend the Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass Music Festival.
